Our Congregational Leader and his family Messianic Rabbi Joel Liberman
The spiritual leader of Tree of Life is Joel Liberman. He was raised in a Messianic Jewish home, and has been active in the Messianic movement for 22 years, including terms as Vice President and Treasurer of the Young Messianic Jewish Alliance (YMJA), a term as Treasurer of the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America (MJAA), an additional four year term on the MJAA Executive Committee, a two year term on the Steering Committee of the International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues (IAMCS), and two years as the Treasurer of the International Messianic Jewish Alliance (IMJA). Joel currently serves as the Executive Director of the IMJA and is serving another two year term on the Steering Committee of the IAMCS. He is an ordained Messianic Rabbi through the IAMCS, of which Tree of Life is a member congregation. Joel has served in various capacities in the leadership of Tree of Life since its inception and is a frequent speaker and teacher at Messianic Jewish conferences. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from San Diego State University, and is a Certified Public Accountant in private practice. Joel has a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Studies and is continuing his theological education by currently pursuing a Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in Biblical Studies.
His wife Darcie has also served the Messianic movement, most notably in various dance troupes and teaches Israeli and Messianic dance at conferences. Darcie holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Drama from the University of California at Irvine. She is currently occupied full time raising the couple's children (Avi - age 12 and Ariela - age 9) and is a part-time aerobics instructor for '24 Hour Fitness.'
